LIFE OF A FISHERMAN
January is not a familiar time for fishermen. Extreme weather, with strong winds and the threat of high waves while in the middle of the sea made them reluctant to go to sea. Heavy rains also make sea surface temperatures colder. As a result, the fish then enter deeper seas and make fishing nets unable to catch them.
I took this photo series in early January at the Tanjungsari Auction Area, just walking around while cycling leisurely on the weekends. There is no loading and unloading of catches like in summer. Dozens of boats were intentionally left by their owners in the estuary. Several boat crews were seen chatting around the auction.
Some other fishermen took advantage of this moment to repair the ship's parts and accessories. Starting from sewing perforated nets, checking mines, to servicing engines and other boat parts. This time, it was the tailors and mechanics who got the blessing. The small talk that was created between the shooting sessions, as well as their laughter and friendliness in meeting new people made my view of the harsh nature of coastal people change slightly.
